Super Hero Party!

Bryson had his 1st friend party this year. I wanted to do something very simple, that wouldn't cost a lot of money, and wouldn't require much work from me. However, we ran into a slight snag. You see, Bryson decided to take it upon himself to invite his 2 friends to his party in front of his whole class. And to make matters worse, he apparently started the invitation by saying, "my mom told me to ask. . .". I was SO embarrassed when he told me (you see it's a school rule that if invitation are sent to school it has to be for the whole class). I also felt bad that the little girl he sits beside was sad that she wasn't invited. So I took a risk and we invited the whole class. So the whole gigantic process of preparing for a party began. I must admit though that I did have a lot of fun coming up with ideas, I just had hoped to not bring on this extra responsibility. For anyone who has little boys, the super hero theme was so easy to come up with ideas and decorate for!

The Batman logo was the thing that I decorated with. Our computer doesn't print color graphics for some reason so to get around this I print everything in black then on yellow paper to get color. This is the cake that I made and the gift bags. The Dollar Tree had so many super hero toys/candy that it was easy to create simple gift bags too!

Bryson blowing out his candles! He told me he had to use his super hero breath for the last candle! :)

** I MUST tell you what the hit of the party was- Super Hero Punch! This was terribly difficult to make- Kool-Aide and Pop Rocks. I poured a litttle bit of Pop Rocks into each of the kids cups. The whole room was popping and crackling. They thought it was GREAT! When they asked for refills, they all wanted the pop rocks in it too!

I made each of the kids a cape with their 1st initial on them

This is the nicest group of kids! They were so well behaved. I thought they would take like 10 minutes to eat, but they sat around the table for almost 30 minutes just eating and talking and having a good time. It was really cute!

Every party has to have some games!

Superman says (aka Simon says)

Batman, Batman, Joker (aka Duck, Duck, Goose)
I told you this super hero theme was easy! :)

We had around 30 balloons all over the floor and the kids thought these were great. They were great entertainment during the down times!

Here's Bryson with his good buddies Maddox and Luke! Each of the kids decorated super hero masks when they 1st arrived at the party with glitter glue. Bryson insisted that he had to wear a super hero shirt for his party. :)

When Bryson opened his presents it was hysterical! The kids were all sitting down nicely and then they were like a swarm of bees as he went for the 1st present. This was the only picture I got before the swarm took over. :)

Happy 6th Birthday Bryson!

Bryson turned 6 this past Saturday. I made a video for his birthday that I thought turned out really neat, so I thought I would share it. I just can't believe my little guy is 6 already. Making this video brought back so many memories! It seems just like yesterday that we brought him home from the hospital. I must confess that the video got a little long, but I decided that if I was taking the time to make it, I wanted all of my favorite pics in it.

Bryson,

You make me so proud to be your Mommy! I have loved every day of the last 6 years, even when you were wild and crazy. Your Daddy and I feel blessed that God has allowed us to be your parents. We love your creativity and enthusiasm. We look forward to sharing in year 6 with you and we pray that your heart will continue to grow for your love of Jesus! We Love You!!

Love,

Mom

PS- more birthday pics to come!

Kid of Character

There are days when I think that I must be a terrible parent. At home my kids are quite often wild and crazy. I must say a million time a day to stop yelling, be nice to your brother, stop running, etc. I wonder to myself are they listening to anything I'm trying to teach them. Bryson came home the other day with an award from school that showed me maybe I am doing okay as a parent. :) Bryson was chosen for the month of November for the Kid of Character award for his classroom. (Sidenote- no I'm not that late posting on this, for some reason he just came home with the award the other week) Bryson is really doing well in Kindergarten academically, but it makes me more proud to know that he is a kid with good character away from his family. :)

The day the teacher announced to the class that he was selected for this award, on of his friends was disappointed that he wasn't chosen. Bryson asked me when he got his award if he could rip it in half so he could share it with his friend who was sad. :)

The Hair Cut!!

Here is the much awaited pictures of our hair cutting catastrophe. The picture below it what I found on our living room couch a couple of weeks ago. I almost cried as I vacuumed up all of the hair!

Do you see all of that hair? There even was hair under the dinning room table, but I couldn't get a good picture of it.

I had been trying to be very intentional about thinning Addie's bangs out and getting all of her hair at the same length. It seems like her hair at the front of her head doesn't grow as quickly as the hair in the back. Anyways, I was getting quite proud of the progress we were making. I was starting to braid her hair and pull it back into cute pony tails. All of that is no more for a while.

Here's the outcome. I think I'm the only one that really notices the damage. You can see how her bangs are quite lopsided. We are quite lucky that the damage can be hidden by pulling it back in a clip. I predict that this haircut is going to get much worse when it grows out!

My guess as to what happened is this- I have always parted Addie's hair off to the side because that was the way that it laid the best. But she always had a chunk of hair that fell in her face if it wasn't pulled back with a clip. Well, I believe that she just whacked of that whole chunk of hair that was hanging in front of her face. It's really hard to tell but the hair that is pulled back is just this chunk of hair. It's maybe 5 inches long. In someways it's like she put a layer in her hair.

I spent several days trying to decide if I should cut her bangs or not. I was afraid that if I evened things up it would look silly because they were so short. I finally cut them and this is the final outcome. Definitely could have been worse, but I'm still not real happy with this little girl. But she sure is proud of herself!
